Computing

The future is bright and very exciting! As a school we had a choice: replace the Computer Room computers with something similar, or look forward to how our children are likely to use computing in the years to come. Of course, the latter was the winner. Our children are already confident users of IT and we are working to teach them how to best use it to support and extend their learning in other subjects. Therefore, we have purchased SurfaceGo devices to begin this journey. The children were enthralled when they started using them: the functionality of the choice between keyboard, touch screen and pen allows then to choose the most appropriate tool for the job. Motivation is high, in lessons I have heard shouts of “amazing”, “I love this”, and a fairly regular, “I’m going to ask for one…” (sorry).

So, as well as delivering the Computing Curriculum for all the children from years 1 to 6 on the SurfaceGos, our wonderful Year 6 pupils will be experiencing portions of the Science curriculum taught and recorded using OneNote classbooks, MS Whiteboard and a host of other applications – this should really test and extend their skills. Our STEAM days will soon be full of integrated use of the devices and apps.
