Speech Competition

The Upper School Speech competition proved to be the very best ever with a real celebrity judging alongside Mr Groves. Gemma Atkins, West end Star (Kinky Boots, Wicked, Evita and Starlight Express to name but a few) took control of the panel and was, as said, “blown away with our confident, enthusiastic and knowledgeable young speakers”. There seemed to be a common theme across the year groups of Saving Our Planet. The Year 5 winner’s presentation of ‘I’m Loving it’, was all about fast food and the rubbish it creates, and “Not Loving It!” Sienna Hirst won the Year 4 section with her very informative and confident presentation on the History of Dance. Year 6 proved to be an extremely high standard with five of the finalists being marked equal between the two judges. However, it was won by probably one of the best speeches we have ever heard from Georgina Davis on ‘Never Give Up’, which epitomised our ‘I Can and I Will’ motto, everything we as a school stand for. For those of you who missed it she will be performing this live on Speech Day. The Special Speech Award went to Zara Head for her rendition of ’Jersey Cows’ which impressed Gemma Atkins with the ‘home life on a farm’ aspect, which she found enchanting.

The youngest in the school yet again astounded us with their confidence and wealth of knowledge during their speech competition final. From the creation of a delicious banana split, environmental awareness to boxing and being a middle child, children presented their well-practised speeches to the rest of the junior school, judges and parents. The competition allows those who do not always present as the most confident the opportunity to show their public speaking skills through practice and for some through confidence building LAMDA classes. Well done to every child who took part in the competition and to the finalists. Winners from each year group were presented with a cup which can be engraved as a lasting memory of their success in 2018.

Start planning your speeches for next year and good luck!
