St Faith’s ‘Loves Food and Hates Waste’

We are working hard to reduce our food waste here at St Faith’s. We know that wasting food is not good for our environment and St Faithians always like to be eco-friendly. Along with all the other initiatives we have here at school, such as using refillable water bottles and making sure we don’t waste electricity, we are now going to try harder to protect the world around us by striving to reduce food waste.

We encourage children to eat a balanced meal and to try new food at lunchtime. The children have a great selection of options to choose from on a daily basis and we ask them to make wise choices about what they take. This helps to avoid waste and ensure that the children are enjoying a healthy and filling meal, which helps fuel them for their afternoon of learning. We love to see plates that have been cleared and satisfied looking faces at lunchtimes.

We attempt to reduce food waste by…

Taking as much food as you are going to eat at mealtimes.

Trying small amounts of new food (do not try large amounts in case you do not want to eat it all!)

If you see others wasting food, encourage them not to.

Miss Franklin, Leader of the Eco Warriors, spoke to all the children about our initiative last half-term and feedback from staff about the children’s enthusiastic attitude towards reducing food waste has been really positive so far!
