History inspires Year 2

As part of our History lessons we have been studying an inspirational young woman called Amy Johnson. We have learnt all about this courageous and adventurous pilot, who set many flying records in her short life. The children expressed amazement about her exploits, especially her solo flight to Australia. Many of them were concerned that she had nowhere to sleep on such a long journey! “Wow, I couldn’t stay awake for that long!” was Noah’s initial reaction.

The children have thought about all the attributes that she possessed, and how they could apply them to their lives (though maybe not her rebellious nature!) Martha commented that she must have had great resilience to keep trying to succeed in the male orientated world of flying.

Did you know that she flew up the River Thames estuary which is near Herne Bay? Hopefully when we go on our Spring visit to Mr Clark’s Herne Bay Watch Station next week, he can show us exactly where it is! Wow! Won’t that be amazing!
