Sport Report – a thrilling week of football and hockey

Monday 18 November

U11 Boys and Girls Football v Sibertswold Primary – HOME

Both teams were looking to keep their 100% record going in the Dover and Deal league. The girls played first and, despite Sibertswold having some chances, the girls were strong in defence and kept a clean sheet. At the other end of the pitch, Hannah A, Julie O and Zara C were threatening to score and eventually did; one goal in each half to make the final score 2-0. It was then the boys turn to play and for them it was a frustrating match. Some of their play was excellent and they were by far the more threatening team. However, at half-time it was 0-0 and Sibertswold scored a deflected goal early in the second-half. The boys pushed hard for an equaliser but Sibertswold held firm in defence to make the final score 0-1. Players of the match went to Charlie B and Rosie H.

Tuesday 19 November

U9AB Boys Football v Kent College – HOME

On another sunny afternoon at St Faith’s, the boys had their final Football match before the Christmas break. It was a big test against a traditionally strong opposition but they put up a good fight. The 1st team went 0-2 early in the match and could have let their heads drop, yet they bounced back with tremendous enthusiasm to take the lead 3-2. However, Kent College finished the match stronger and eventually won 3-6. The Development Team had a really close contest with some excellent defensive work on display from both teams. This time Kent College came away narrow winners 1-2. Players of the match went to Krish B and Max R.

Wednesday 20 November

U11ABC Girls Football Tournament at Spring Grove – AWAY

The girls were super excited to travel en mass to Spring Grove to play in their always friendly and fun tournament. All 3 teams were a credit to the school with tremendous enthusiasm and team spirit all afternoon. The A and B teams were even in a contest against each other. Coach Latham v Coach Mackenzie! Who would come out on top? The A team and Mrs Latham managed to win and progressed through to the final. They played superbly in the final to win the trophy for a third year in a row. The B team came 3rd in the event which was also a fantastic achievement.

Thurs 22 November
U9 Hockey Tournament at Junior Kings Canterbury
The U9 girls attended the annual tournament at Junior King’s Canterbury. It was certainly a daunting line-up of opponents from schools in attendance. The girls certainly found it hard, with some being quite inexperienced at playing on an Astroturf pitch. However, they demonstrated a fantastic ‘never give up’ attitude and really improved their game as the event went on. They managed to record a hard-fought and well deserved draw with Lorenden Prep at the end of the event. Although the girls did not get a win they enjoyed their afternoon as well as the fantastic match tea. Player of the match went to Hermione P. Great attitude girls!

Next week is the final round of matches before the Christmas break. The U11 girls have their next league match against Wingham Primary. If they win they will win the league for a third time in a row. The U9 girls travel to St Lawrence College for Hockey matches and to end the week, the U11 boys have the 2nd round Stabbs Cup match to look forward to as they play Eastry Primary. Good luck to all involved.
