ISA Essay Competition 2018 Results

We are delighted to congratulate Year 6 pupil Faustino Bernardini-Cash who has won the first prize for his essay in the competition for the Horsey Junior boys category. Results will be also published in the next issue of the ISA Journal in June and on their website.

Please see below the comment on Faustino’s Essay from the judge Brian Duffield:

First Place: Faustino Bernardini-Cash ST FAITHS AT ASH

Great tone with good mastery over form and language. This entry displays a great personal voice with good mastery over form and language. Faustino creates an eerie atmosphere that suits the fantasy genre. This is particularly illustrated in an opening that intrigues the reader and establishes an engaging tone: “Her eyes were like hexed marbles” is typical of the imaginative descriptors used throughout by Faustino. This is further developed through the impressive use of textured, sensory phrases: “the pungent scent of lilies” creates for the reader a vivid atmosphere.

Congratulations again to Faustino!
