E-Safety

E-safety, or online safety is always a hot topic! This term, children in years 3 to 6 have been reviewing the SMART safety rules with enthusiasm. We have had some amazing conversations and really mature views shared, children listened to each other and collaborated to build new learning. I was particularly pleased to hear the understanding that the children had remembered from last year: not sharing any personal information online was definitely a key fact. Everyone showed a good grasp of talking to adults about their online lives, especially if they see or hear something that makes them unhappy. “It’s really important as is part of all our lives, especially now we are going to secondary school” said one of the children in Year 6. Another child, who was new to us at the beginning of term, pointed out that it was good that we talked about it rather than just having the posters up.

Your child will be bringing home a copy of the Digital Parenting magazine this week, which is, as usual, packed with tips and advice.

There is a quiz on the smart at https://www.childnet.com/young-people/primary/smart-rules-quiz which would be great to do together with your years 3-6 children as a discussion point (the year 5s have already done it, so they shouldn’t have any excuses!)
