Serre Chevalier 2023

Mr Andrews’ Blog Day 3

Welcome back dear readers! When you left us last night we were headed off to take part in a Winter Olympic activity. Led by our host Quinn (yes another improbably cool guy, and this one even manages to make a mullet look good – several of the children have designs on this for their next hair cut), we headed out to the bottom of the slopes for some fun!

The group was then split into four tribes, and Quinn armed them with face paint – the remnants of which can still be seen on some of the children’s faces. We did battle in a variety of events, culminating in a limbo challenge which served to demonstrate that children are definitely far more flexible than adults! The Silver Team emerged victorious and won themselves milkshakes at lunch, much to their delight.

As we trooped back into Fréjus, we were greeted with crêpes. Quinn was adamant that the children be given creative licence over their toppings, and Mrs Coombs did sterling work with the squirty cream. The perfect recipe for happy, smiling children!

This morning, we woke to the sun shining and perfect skiing conditions, and after plastering the children with sun cream we set off for the slopes. The children had a great time, and all the groups headed for the piste and carved their way down the mountain beautifully. It is so pleasing to see the improvements already made by Benjamin’s group, and Gaspard and JC are both over the moon with the children in their groups.

Lunchtime saw the official opening of Mr Andrews’ Sweet Shop (location: bottom drawer of the chest of drawers), thanks to Mrs Coombs’ packing her suitcase with every sweet known to mankind! I’m sure airport security wondered why we were transporting half of Tesco’s sweet aisle to France with us! The children are now happily reaping the rewards of Mrs Coombs’ shopping, and are making the most of ‘the shop’ being open. Will I secretly eat them all in the night? Should I ever have been trusted with them? Both valid questions, and the answers are yet to be determined.

Another afternoon of skiing later, and we are headed for the hotel quiz; let’s see which team can win the free milkshakes at lunch tomorrow!
