The Big Garden Watch.

Did you know that Robins eat worms and are usually seen alone? Nursery children do! This term, Nursery children will be learning about birds as part of their Big Garden Watch. They will be introduced to the names of the birds that they may see on a daily basis and learn some interesting facts, such as Robins generally sing in the Winter and Spring.

The children will also engage in a range of activities, making their own birds, bird houses and bird feeders. Already they are excited about creating their own bird feeding area which they will later monitor on a given time of day to record the highest number of bird species seen over a period of time. Later they will send their results to the R.S.P.B. All this information adds up to create a detailed snapshot of how our wildlife is faring around the UK.

This lively and engaging activity links with the EYFS curriculum, in particular maths and their understanding of the world. It also teaches young children to show care and concern for living things and the environment.

It promises to be an exciting term for children in Sandcastles Nursery.
