Eco Warriors Update

Thank you to last term’s Eco Warriors who did a great job for the longest term of the year. Your efforts were much appreciated. Brand new Eco Warriors were elected last week and on Friday they met with me to discuss some of the projects we will be working on this term.

As ever, our willing Warriors are tasked with helping the school to be more eco-friendly. They remind their classmates (and teachers) to close doors to keep the heat in the school buildings and turn off lights, projectors, TVs and computers, when they are not in use. This will help our environment and reduce our electricity bill at the same time, so that school funds can be better spent elsewhere.

Last week, we really noticed the dramatic temperature drop and this week the Eco Warriors will begin to put out food (such as seed and dried meal worms) and water for any birds that live at or visit our school grounds. Our two Year 6 Eco Prefects were keen to get things rolling. They loaded up our fat ball container on Friday and sprinkled some tasty raisins and meal worms to ensure that any visiting birds over the weekend wouldn’t go without. They even washed out the water bowl- only the cleanest and fresh water for our bird guests will do!

We continue to ask that parents provide children with water bottles for school, so that we avoid providing one use plastic bottles for trips. Over the course of the year, this will help to reduce our plastic use considerably. We hope to organise another school beach clean at the end of this term, when the weather is a bit more suitable for such an event. In the meantime, if your family are involved in any environmentally friendly initiatives, I would love to hear about them. Feel free to email me or pop by and see me in Year 3.

Various new school initiatives are in the pipeline for this term and next to ensure that St Faith’s pupils grow up with an understanding of what they can do at school and at home to help take care of this precious planet that we live on.
