Reflecting on Yom Kippur

Happy Yom Kippur to all our Jewish families. The holiest day of the year for Jews.

September 15th and 16th mark a very special festival for Jews. It is a time when Jews think about all the things that they have done wrong and say sorry to God. Jewish people visit their special place of worship called a Synagogue during this time and ask God to forgive them. Sometimes Jews do not eat or drink for a whole day because they want to feel empathy for the people that they have upset. At the end of Yom Kippur Jewish people have a feast to celebrate. They might even send cards to each other saying ‘Happy Holidays’.

Year 2 have learnt about Yom Kippur as part of their topic on Judaism. One girl said that she was very sorry for biting her big sister when she was young. Another Year 2 said that she took an apple from the fridge when mummy wasn’t looking, and lots of our wonderful Year 2 said that they were sorry for having untidy bedrooms full of toys.

Year 2 think that we could all learn from the Jewish festival. Thinking about being the best you can be and saying sorry for our mistakes. Hang on! Being the best you can be…that’s part of being a St Faithian! Happy Yom Kippur everybody.
