Music Report

Another busy week of music ended with Daniel and Tom performing during Friday’s assembly and the school enjoying singing ‘Shotgun’. Year 5 are at the O2 today, performing with Young Voices, and other year groups have been busy during their music lessons this week. Pictures below are of the wonderful children in Year 4 embarking on their second composition task of the school year. Having produced music describing a storm before Christmas, this term they have been composing short pieces of music, each of which represented a dog from the ‘Hairy Maclary’ stories by Lynley Dodd. This idea of using a leitmotif is key to the music dramas of German composer Richard Wagner, which the children have also spent time listening to.

Over the next few weeks they will continue to compose music to accompany an entire ‘Hairy Maclary’ story, with their leitmotifs being central to this task. They will then perform their work which will be evaluated by the rest of the class. After such a great start, their finished compositions will be amazing! We have exams with RockSchool, Trinity and ABRSM over the next couple of weeks together with Twilight Concerts and of course the House Music Competition. More on all of these over the next few weeks.
