Able Maths Day

From finger multiplication to factorials and from problem solving to Pi, four of our budding mathematicians from Years 5 and 6 were really put through their paces at the Able Maths day on Tuesday at Hoath Primary School.

During a day that covered a wealth of different concepts (including some A-Level content), our crack team consistently applied and developed their understanding and showed fantastic perseverance when things got tricky! The group enjoyed learning new multiplication methods, discovering the combination power of the factorial and uncovering that prime numbers are the building blocks of all numbers. However, the most important lesson learnt was the need to ask questions such as: ‘Why?’, ‘But what actually is it?’ and ‘What use is it?’. Only by challenging yourself (and your teachers), can you really deepen your understanding!

The pupils were a real credit and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Make sure you ask them to show you their new multiplication method for those tricky times tables!
