St Faith’s pupils impress judges at the Speech Competition

The confidence of the youngest members of our school community were stretched during the Speech Competition final last Friday.

There was no evidence of nerves when they stood in front of their audience and performed. The themes ranged from personal interests such as, ‘Rabbits’ and ‘The Red Arrows’ to global responsibilities such as orangutans losing their habitat and recycling. Their speeches were supported not only by their research but also with props, costumes and even the odd puppet!

All finalists received a certificate of achievement and the winners were given their cups, which can be engraved with their names to be remembered for all time! Those who did not win on this occasion, showed great generosity and congratulated the winners. This is tricky and very grown up when you are only 5 or 6!

Congratulations to all who took part, you all stretched outside your comfort zone growing your skills and talents… well done!

The Upper School Speech Competition also proved to be of a consistently high standard again this year with the ever-running theme of sustainability and protecting our environment strong throughout. We were delighted to have Emily White, Head of Public Speaking at Kent College judging. She was astounded at the confidence displayed by all speakers from Year 4 to 6 and the mature fashion in which they delivered their speeches. Louis H handsomely won the Year 6 section with a speech about autism; Joshua T – Year 5 won with his speech about his Pear Business and Arabella – Year 4 took the trophy for a speech about her love of music and encouraging others to try. The audience were well entertained and engaged throughout, and we undoubtedly ended the day as a better school because of the competition.
