It’s time to revisit the Nature Garden

It’s not officially Spring yet, but life goes on in the Nature Garden

Rafi and Abi accompanied me on a Nature Safari around the school. This involved the grooming and cleaning out of Lily and Rafi (the furry one), a wander down to the Nature Garden to monitor any developments following the heavy rain and to check on all the bulbs that have been planted recently.

After saying a tearful farewell for the weekend to Lily and Rafi (they were off with their foster parents, Mr and Mrs Amos and Benji, we trundled down to the Nature Garden in our wellies. The ground was surprisingly dry and ready for the hordes of young naturalists for the impending spring weather. We were greeted by three beautiful hens and a rather handsome cockerel…yes, we are hoping to incubate some eggs and have our own hatchlings. We did however take the first egg of the season and Abigail plans to have that poached for breakfast on Saturday morning. Over to the pond we went for yet another surprise. Our shoal of Rudd and Roach were gone, taken by a hungry heron we suspect. Other than that, the pond was looking splendorous with new lilies growing. The huge gazebo is almost complete and we are awaiting the start of Mr Clark’s assistant to have the roof completed.

On the way back, the purple crocuses were on show and dancing magnificently in the wind having been saved from under the wheels of a multitude of parents keenly trying to find a parking space.
