Roald Dahl Open Day

Mr Andrew’s Marvellous Medicine

It’s official, I am starting to sound more like my Grandmother each day and I am fine with it. Our Roald Dahl workshop started off with a safety briefing regarding medicine cabinets (a passion of hers) and how even George only wanted to give his Grandma ‘A pretty fiery mouthful, he didn’t want a dead body on his hands’. Once this wisdom was imparted the group set to work on creating the most fizzing, spiffing, spuffing, spaffing, spondondalonsous medicine ever created. First the children had to name the ingredient they found in ‘the bathroom’. A personal favourite of mine being ‘Wendy’s Wonderful Washing-Up Liquid’. If you had not guessed from this example, alliteration was the name of the game. Once named it was time to shoot the commercial – insert X-Factor Voice – Harry’s Hot Hand-Warming Cream, buy it now whilst stocks last! Once each group and performed their commercial the real fun began as each child came forward and added a splash, pinch, squirt or the whole bottle to our cauldron. The result, a putrid smelling, bubbling, frothy concoction that not even Grandma would have a spoonful of. Everyone left the workshop with smiles on their face, apart from the person whose job it was to now clean said cauldron. I honestly could not think of a better way to spend the morning! This is what open days are all about – happy, engaged, creative children!
