Reception enjoy a coastal trip and some serious gardening

Last Friday Reception embarked on their last fun filled trip of the year to the coastal park in Folkestone. The sun was shining as they explored and investigated a pirate ship, zipped along a zip wire and climbed across rope bridges. After a fantastic picnic there was just time for an ice-cream before heading back to school…what a great way to end our first year at school. “The pirate ship was my favourite part and I loved building sandcastles with my friends” said Harry.

But it’s not just about the fun and motivational trips, Reception children, amongst other things, have developed a love of gardening. Last week they planted sweetcorn and sunflowers, and with the help of the Ash Horticultural Society, they are learning to take care of and nurture their plants. As a group they decided that a large watering can filled with water would be far too heavy to carry all the way down to the nature garden, so instead they all brought in their own, smaller watering cans from home. After filling up from the outside tap they walked down to the garden where they were able to give the plants a much needed drink…only a few splashes and spills on the way! There was much anticipation to see if they had grown, however they might just have to wait a few more weeks before they can pick any corn. As the hot weather continues into this week we will be visiting the nature garden on a regular basis to ensure that our plants are well watered.
