Personal Social Health and Economic Education (PSHEE)

Personal Social Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) provides a vital foundation for the personal development of our pupils in preparing them for the next stage of their life. We aim to develop their confidence and responsibility to make the most of their abilities and to develop a healthy, safer lifestyle, develop good relationships and to respect the differences between people.

As part of their PSHEE studies, Year 2, listened to the story of Rosie Revere, a little girl who had big dreams of being an engineer. She created all sorts of contraptions to help people, even creating a flying machine for her Great-Great-Aunt Rose. However, when she tried to fly it, it failed miserably! Her Aunt laughed and told her that her brilliant first flop was a raging success! The children talked about what this could possibly mean, as when something does not work the first time, you do not give up!

We linked this idea to all the things that they have accomplished in their young lives from learning to walk and talk to reading and writing. The children thought about a time when they could not do something and how that made them feel. After much discussion about the learning process, they decided that if we never made any mistakes we would never learn anything. Flynn said that anyone could do anything if you try and try again! The message that we took away from our lesson was that ‘Even though you might fail initially, you should never give up!’
