Mathematics and Pizza

Who knew that making pizza could develop our mathematical knowledge and understanding of symmetry?

This week Reception children embraced a taste of Italy without even leaving the classroom. We worked collaboratively with our partner to weigh, chop, grate, spread and arrange our toppings whilst listening to some ‘Pavarotti’ to get us all in the mood! After careful discussion to ensure that our pizzas looked symmetrical our bouncy bunch of budding ‘Gino’s’ decided they looked good enough to eat! “Wait” declared Harry, “we need to put them in the oven first!”

Fantastico Chef Paul came to our rescue, yet again, and kindly cooked our lovingly made pizzas for us to all enjoy as a special tasty treat in the afternoon.

Our inspired learners expressed their thanks by saying ‘grazie’ then dining by the stunning views of Venice!
