Weekly Sport Report

Friday 8 March

Last Friday, children from Years 5 and 6 travelled to the brand new Dover Leisure Centre to compete in the Dover School Games Swimming Gala. Although some were very experienced in this type of event for their swimming clubs, for others it was a new experience and one they all seemed to enjoy. With our Years 3 and 4 unable to attend due to other trips, the overall trophy was never in our grasp. However, we still had some individual successes to celebrate. Jack M won the boys 50m freestyle with a superb swim, Nicholas F came 2nd in the boys 25m breaststroke and Jude L came 3rd in the boys 25m backstroke. Finally, the swimmers took a fantastic 3rd place in the medley relay, with the team consisting of Toby S, Alex R and Jack M. A great team effort from all, they were all so supportive of each other and a pleasure to be with. Well done!

U11 Girls Netball Tournament at Wellesley House

The wind died down just enough for the tournament to take place but conditions were quite tricky. However, the attitude and effort from the girls were just as good as always. They started the tournament off strongly with a draw against St Lawrence College (1-1) and wins against Wellesley House (4-2) and Dover College (6-1). They had some very tough matches, which they lost against Kings Rochester (2-3) and Ashford Prep (0-4). Next came their best result of the afternoon, with a fantastic draw with Junior King’s Canterbury (1-1). They finished off their tournament with a win against Northbourne Park (2-1). The girls finished 3rd in the overall competition, an excellent effort against some very strong opposition. Great effort girls!!

U11BC v Junior King’s Canterbury

On the same afternoon, the girls hosted Junior King’s for Development team matches. The B team had an extremely competitive and close match that they were winning 3-1 at half time. However, Junior King’s bounced back in the second half to eventually win 4-5. A tremendous effort from the girls. The C team had a tough afternoon up against girls who were generally much taller. Despite battling hard in defence they struggled to get the ball to our attacking end and as a result lost 0-8. Players of the match went to Zara C and Jessica W. Good effort girls!

U9AB Boys Hockey v St Lawrence College

What an effort the boys put in this afternoon! The task ahead of them was clear but they were extremely focused and up for the challenge as they travelled to St Lawrence College to play. The A team put in a defensive display they can be extremely proud of. Despite being on the back foot and under pressure during the match, against tough opposition, they held firm. They worked so hard for each other and at half time the score was 0-0. An excellent score line considering we did not manage to have a shot in the first half. In the second half, St Lawrence finally broke through our defences, but instead of letting their heads drop, they scored a remarkable goal straight back! They continued to press and tackle, but St Lawrence managed to score a goal towards the end to make the final score 2-1. The Development team were equally amazing and actually took the lead. However, the final score was 1-1 to make the afternoon of Hockey extremely successful and enjoyable to witness. Players of the match went to Joshua T and Jamie M. Well played boys!

Next week the girls have Netball matches against Spring Grove at U11 and U9 age groups. Year 3 and 4 also have their House Netball competition to look forward to.
