Twilight Concerts & House Music

House Music

During the first half of this term, the sound of Queen has resounded around the school as the children (and teachers!) prepared for the annual House Music Competition. Some of the song choices have provided more of a challenge than perhaps was expected, but gradually everything has come together and it was a fantastic competition on Thursday afternoon. Not only did each house have to perform a song by Queen, there were also two solo or ensemble performances. The school sang ‘We are the Champions’ as the judge, Mr Bowyer from St Lawrence College, decided on the winning house. Eventually, the winners were announced as Sycamore, represented by Martha B and Daniel as soloists and who performed ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ as their Queen song. Hopefully all the children have had fun learning some new songs, although there was fierce competition on the day! Congratulations to Sycamore and huge thanks to the teachers and teaching assistants for stepping out of their comfort zones to ensure the children were so well prepared.

Twilight Concerts

The Spring Term’s Twilight Concerts took place just before half term. There were some very assured performances, not only from the older children, but also from the younger musicians as well. Children in Years 3 to 6 spoke clearly to introduce their pieces and everyone remembered to bow! In addition to the soloists, all three recorder clubs were on show, including a child from Nursery, all the way through to a child in Year 6. There was also a first performance of the year for the Orchestra who performed part of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The Orchestra children have had big shoes to fill, given the quality of musicians who left last year, but they have really come on in the last few weeks and made a great sound in the concert. Thank you to the children’s teachers, parents and relatives who came to listen and, of course, the children themselves for two fantastic concerts. There will be more performances in the Summer Term.
