The first school trip!

The sun was out, the sky was blue, there wasn’t a lot to spoil the view!
Year 3 were the first lucky Year group to be able to go out and about on a field trip since March 2020. After escaping on our VIP coach to Deal, we arrived at the seafront to be greeted by a saluting Admiral Lord Nelson.
Our enthusiastic host from The History Project set to work bringing to life tales of smuggling and shipwrecks, lost treasure and shifting sands. Did you know that once there were three piers in Deal, Thanet used to be an island and Deal used to be called Dola?
The children then set off on a mission into the old town to learn about the history of the buildings and the street names whilst keeping their eyes peeled for any rogue smugglers! Ashmitha was the first to spot Smuggler Pete with his bag of swag as he dashed off down Gold Street. In hot pursuit, but socially distanced, the intrepid band of Year 3s finally tracked him down and had him arrested on the seafront.
With law and order returned it was time for lunch and some stone art on the beach before heading onto the pier for some seascape sketching inspired by the stunning Kent coastline.
Before boarding the coach back to school, we all enjoyed a refreshing ice cream on the promenade to a rousing of chorus of “Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside!”
Year 3 will agree, escaping the classroom for the day and learning in the outdoors really is the best way to do it.
