Reading Competition
The Years 1 to 3 Reading Competition was incredible! All of the children had read in class, and then the winners were put forward to Friday’s final. Mrs Coombs and Mr Dunn have judged the reading final for a number of years now and never cease to be impressed by the standard of reading, and the courage that children show to get up in front of their peers and take a risk!
This afternoon’s competition was no exception. The standard was very high and so many children who, in the past, would not have been able stand up and read in a competition did so well! One or two really fought their fears and did an excellent job.
In the end, however, three worthy winners were chosen:
Year 1 – Ashmita
Year 2 – Martha and Henry B
Year 3 – Honor
It seems trite to say that every finalist was a winner, but in each of their ways, they were. Whether it was holding back nerves, winning the cup, or acknowledging the huge progress they have made with their reading, everyone took something home…

For Years 4, 5 & 6
The individual class teachers rumoured the standard of the finalists reading to be high for this year’s competition, and they weren’t wrong. We started with Holly in Year 4 who had the unenviable task of kick-starting the whole competition. This she did with an efficiency and professionalism way beyond her years. All six contestants were neck and neck with superb readings. But in the end Harleena came through into first place showing humour, charisma and a winning smile throughout her reading.
