Nursery children investigate the Bug Hotel

It’s all about nature for children in Upper Nursery this term, as they learn all about growing vegetables and flowers. Green fingers (or dirty ones) will be evident, as with great anticipation and excitement they plant up their pot for the Ash Horticultural society competition. Do come along to our Summer Fair held on Sunday 9 June to see how they got on in the competition, we think they will do very well.

Sunhats and Wellies at the ready, magnifying glasses and bug pots in hand we will be heading off to our new nature garden to check out what’s arrived in the bug hotel. What mini-beasts can our little investigators find when they explore the nature garden? Not forgetting a good old nosy in the bug hotel, which we know is becoming occupied with an array of small beasties. Do you know how many legs a centipede has? Your children will! There will be lots to report and update from their regular visits to the nature garden as the term and season progresses. What a treat to explore the real live versions of the many different creatures the children have seen in their nature books, learn their names and discover how they live.

They will also have the opportunity to grow a variety of plants and develop their own new garden centre. We will also be designing and making our own insects using different media and materials, and will be exploring the life-cycles of butterflies through first hand experiences.
