“An amazing concert where children performed to the highest level imaginable and tackled some incredibly ambitious choir, orchestral and solo pieces.”
Wow! What an amazing Summer Concert we were treated to last week! Judging by the numerous compliments from parents afterwards, it was certainly enjoyed by all. Our String Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Choir and Orchestra all performed incredibly well, playing repertoire normally reserved for adults. There can’t be many children of primary school age who can say that they have performed ‘Zadok the Priest’, ‘Firebird’ and ‘Hall of the Mountain King’! The concert was significantly enhanced by the beautiful surroundings of St Nicholas Church in Ash and we were lucky to secure the services of a professional accompanist in Tim Woodhead. There was also a chance for some soloists to take centre stage and they all did extremely well, speaking clearly and remembering to bow! There were a few nerves beforehand but this didn’t affect their performances.
Our wonderful Music Prefects, Bertie and Meena held everything together by introducing the pieces and the different performers. Huge credit must go to the children’s teachers, especially Amanda Gregory, Jo Woodhead and Paul Ainsworth as the children were extremely well-prepared for their performances. Finally, thank you to all the children who performed (and those younger siblings who listened so well in the audience!) and thank you to all the adults who came along to support the children.
The challenge now is to top it next year!
