Farmvention

This term the whole of Year 3 have been working hard planning, researching, designing and making in order to enter a brand new nationwide STEM competition run by the NFU (National Farmers’ Union).

Under the catchy heading of ‘Farmvention’ (when farming meets invention) the children were tasked to design a new healthy snack product for children that used one or more of the following four British foods; milk, beef, beetroot or oats.

They very quickly settled on the idea of an oaty snack and after much deliberation, debating, pondering and negotiation they came up with a team name!

The highpoint of 5 weeks work finally arrived and children were excited to see The Guilford Hall transformed into The Bake Off Tent, but who would be Star Bakers of the Week?

The competition closes on 21st December and the entries will be judged on four criteria: How well you’ve solved the problem, creativity & innovation, the environmental impact of your design and the benefits the design will have for farmers and food producers.

Well done to all of the Year 3’s for working so well as a team to produce some delicious oat based healthy snacks and good luck in the competition.
