An evening concert at Canterbury Cathedral

We were delighted to once again take part in the recent St Edmund’s Gala Concert.  Our Chamber Choir had been preparing last term, with extra rehearsals after school and during evenings, in addition to their usual meetings on Monday mornings. The concert took place in the beautiful setting of Canterbury Cathedral and it was a privilege to be involved in such a spectacular concert.

To make the evening even more special for the children, we all had a delicious dinner at Prezzo in Canterbury beforehand, being careful not to spill food on our uniforms! The children performed ‘I was glad’ by Hubert Parry and John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’ – both incredibly difficult pieces, with some exceptionally tricky passages and notes reaching top Bb. Such challenging repertoire would normally be performed by adults, but our children rose to the challenge brilliantly. They were accompanied by the trumpets, trombones and tuba of London Symphonic Brass and joined St Edmund’s Choral Society, St Edmund’s pupils and the Cathedral Choristers in a choir numbering around 200 voices. As the concert ended at around 9:30pm, there were a few tired children the following day, but they all have memories of a spectacular concert which will last a lifetime.

Thank you very much to Mr Payne, Director of Music at St Edmund’s, for inviting our school to be involved. We really value our two schools’ continued collaboration in music and our children gain a huge amount from this relationship. Thanks also to Mrs Woodhead, Mrs Smith and Mrs Bowyer for their help in preparing and looking after the children. Thank you also to all St Faith’s staff and the children’s families for coming to support us. We hope to be invited to take part next year as well!
