ABRSM EXAMS

It was a nail-biting time for some children as they took an ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) music examination. The exams were held in school and the children performed for Stephen Pinnock, an ABRSM examiner and former organist at Manchester Cathedral.

Taking an exam involves a huge amount of preparation. The children have had their usual weekly lessons with Miss Gregory and Mrs Bartlett, some have had extra lessons, and they have also worked with Mr Ainsworth. Those children singing or playing the clarinet have also rehearsed with Mr Woodhead, who provided the piano accompaniment on the day.

All the children had to perform pieces, do some sight-reading, play scales and complete some aural tests. Pictured is the exam room, ready and waiting for the first candidate, who will be Poppy taking Grade 5 clarinet.

The children eagerly await their results, which will be ready in a few days’ time. There were no tears or major disasters on the day, all appeared to have gone well, children finished their session happy and hopeful and we feel confident everyone will be pleased with their results!

Also pictured are three children who took exams before the Easter holidays. Between them they have achieved a pass at Prep level drums, merit at Prep level guitar and a distinction in Grade 3 Music theory. Well done, everyone!
