A night to remember – Year 5 perform at the O2

Along with over 7300 others, our Year 5 children performed at the O2 last Friday evening. Since September, most of their Music lessons with Mr Ainsworth had been spent learning songs for the Young Voices concert. The day started with a delicious lunch at Frankie and Benny’s followed by a rehearsal with a live band, conductor and soloists – including Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley! In the concert the children sang a wide variety of music, from Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat to The Kinks, Blondie, Kylie Minogue and Coldplay. For many of Year 5, the highlight was saved until the end of the concert when they sang numbers from The Greatest Showman along with soloists Sharlene Hector, Beau Dermott, Tony Hadley and the fantastic dancers of Urban Strides. The journey home was more ‘interesting’ than it should have been with lots of snow and slush to contend with, but we arrived back at school safely shortly after midnight. The children were a pleasure to spend the day with and they will all have memories to last a lifetime!
