A glimpse into the life of children in Year 2

Nature walk

Over the past three weeks, Year 2 have been learning about mini-beasts and their habitats. After learning new vocabulary in the classroom, they pulled on their wellies for a stroll to the Nature Garden. With so many different habitat examples in the Nature Garden, the children were able to become true mini-beast detectives as they looked under rocks and logs, waded through the long grass and searched in hidden nooks and crannies for bugs!

With their new knowledge and real-life examples of mini-beast habitats they were able to bring their understanding to life in the form of informative posters. The children also used the iPads and information texts to research for extra information about their chosen mini-beast’s characteristics and diet.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about, and interacting with the natural world.’

Sign Language

The children in Year 2 have been very lucky over the past few weeks to have had the opportunity to learn some sign language. Miss Jackson, a visiting student teacher has been helping the children to learn a new skill and they have been very pleased to share it with the whole school. They have learned how to sign their names, describe how they feel and talk about their families. At Christmas the children learned ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ and were lucky enough to perform it in assembly. More recently, some of the children have learned to sing and sign ‘A Million Dreams’ from the film, The Greatest Showman. You can see this on our Social Media pages, Facebook & Instagram

We are so proud of our children and hope that we can continue to develop this new-found skill!
