Year 4 Carroty Wood – Day 2

What better way to end a dinner service then receiving such a glowing reference from the caterers. With our appetites fed we set off for another Carroty staple: the evening swim! 19 children took on the torch lit walk to the indoor pool centre with 5 children deciding to stay behind and wash up (they didn’t realise they were going to be washing up when they decided against an evening swim – see photo). Mrs Hunt and her merry band of helpers did an excellent job readying the house. They are now off cleaning duties for the rest of our stay.

The swimming session was a non stop fun fest. Free play was the name of the game and the children delighted in gliding on floats, standing on noodles and pelting their teachers with balls.

It’s 8.49pm and the children are all in their bedrooms reading. Lights out is 9pm. So far they’ve all shown impressive empathy for one another and are all in fine form. No tears so far, just smiley faces. I’m sure they will go straight to sleep at 9pm and the teachers look forward to a solid unbroken sleep of at least 10 hours… Tune in tomorrow to find out how we all slept.

Shares in The Mellin Porridge Company have soared this morning as they reported their best trading results in living memory!

The fun police were out in full patrol last night to crack down on the planned ‘Teddy Bear’ parties the children had up their sleeves. The vast majority were tucked up and snoring soundly by 9.30pm. History dictates that tonight will be an earlier affair. The children emerged from their slumber around the 6.30am mark and were greeted with an array of cereals, toast, the now world famous Mellin porridge and both orange and apple juice. With rain falling steady our morning walk has been put on hold and we are instead playing an array of indoor games. The children are all having a great time and they are a pleasure to be away with. All rooms have passed their morning room check and our resident hairdresser Mrs Hunt has been working overtime to ensure all hair is brushed and tied up.

The children are now eagerly awaiting their first activity at 10am and the arrival of our leader Mr Groves! Will he break his Carroty Wood Golden Ball loosing streak? Only time will tell…

Teamwork and Geocaching were our morning activities and despite the rain our Year 4s showed the best of themselves to impress the Carroty Wood instructors. Our Geocaches scoured the woods for clues to complete their trail. Thanks to excellent teamwork they prevailed!

The Teamwork group showed excellent collaboration skills and were victorious in their pursuit of dream work! All in all, a brilliant morning! After making their own lunch (rolls with a selection of fillings) it was decided that our afternoon activities would be moved indoors! With the drying room fit to bursting this was a relief.

Mr Groves arrival has been met with much excitement and Harper has already won a golden ball and become a 6’er in the process. We are off to the Sports Hall and Indoor Learning Space now. Once again, the children continue to impress us with their attitude, behaviour and enthusiasm!

Blog 6 – Day 2

Rain, sade, regen, vihm, pluie, chuva and glaw. Whatever language you use to say rain, it is always the same – wet!

With our planned afternoon activities a wash-out we retreated to the Sports Hall and Carroty Classroom for a host of fun games! Again, the children were brilliant and embraced the afternoon. As a treat, once back in the house we set to creating the most exciting afternoon that we could and I have to say once again we have surpassed even our high standards!

First, we premiered the Spring collection from the House of St Faith’s. A celebration of the brightest young designers from Ash, Beech, Sycamore and Oak. They were given 20 minutes, 2 bin bags and the artistic flair to create whatever fashion wear they could conjure up. The results were amazing! Mr Groves and Mrs Hunt has a hard time judging as each ‘model’ was accompanied by an announcer describing their attire. We added music to the runway walk and laughed and laughed and laughed!

After that Mr Andrews introduced the children to human shuffle board. Beech were the victors here. The mood was then dampened as a game of ‘Can You Guess What it is Yet?’ fell foul to an awful crocodile come dinosaur, come house, come dragon, tree forest creation. Mrs Mellin was quick to step in and set up a talent show to save the day! The children are all now preparing dances, magic tricks, teddy bear parties, art creations and a ventriloquist gorrila (which I for one can’t wait to see!).

Results of the show will be shared later. For now, the caterers have arrived and are getting our sausage and mash ready. Hardy food for a hardy bunch! We have movie night later! Until then, keep on dancing!
